Somboon Seafood

The Surawong original locals love — come for the legendary fried curry crab, stay for claypot prawns, fried sea bass and morning glory. Big, lively room, fair prices, and dinner queues. Daily 11am–10pm near Silom.

About

Bangkok’s most famous crab curry lives here. The Surawong branch of Somboon Seafood is the one locals swear by — a big, lively dining room where platters land fast and hot, and tables fill with families, office crews and travelers chasing that signature fried curry crab. It’s rich, fragrant and a little addictive, with sweet chunks of crab bound in a golden curry-egg sauce that begs for steamed rice. Build the table out with Thai seafood standards done right: claypot prawns with glass noodles, crisp fried sea bass with spicy mango salad, stir‑fried morning glory, and a bowl of tom yum if you like heat. Portions are designed for sharing and prices are fair for the quality, which is why you’ll see half the room toasting over lazy susans by 7pm. Go early or reserve — dinner gets busy, especially on weekends. You’ll find it on Surawong Road, a short hop from Silom and easy enough by taxi from Khao San. Service is brisk, menus are multilingual, and there are several branches across town if this one is full — but start here if you can; it’s the classic address.
