Wat Phra Chetuphon Wimon Mangkhalaram Rajwaramahawihan
About
Better known as Wat Pho, this is the temple with the massive reclining Buddha — 46 meters long, covered in gold leaf, filling an entire hall. It's the oldest and largest temple complex in Bangkok, dating back to the 16th century, and sits about a 15-minute walk south of Khao San Road near the Grand Palace. Entry is 300 baht for foreigners and includes a bottle of water.
The grounds hold over 1,000 Buddha images and 91 chedis. Wat Pho is also the birthplace of traditional Thai massage — the on-site massage school offers hour-long sessions for around 500 baht, and they're genuinely good. Go early in the morning to beat the tour bus crowds. The temple opens at 8am and the reclining Buddha hall gets packed by 10am.
