Markets $$$ Open
Samyan Market
Bangkok’s dawn routine: a proper wet market near Chula with fresh seafood, veg, and legit Thai breakfasts (jok, soy milk, patongo). Go 6–9am for peak action. Open daily 5am–5pm, about a 10‑minute walk from MRT Sam Yan.
About
Samyan Market is Bangkok’s early-morning engine room — the kind of place where the city wakes up. From 5am the lanes fill with aunties bargaining for herbs, fishmongers icing down today’s catch, and students from Chula grabbing breakfast before class. It’s a true wet market, but you’ll also find quick bites: steaming jok (rice porridge), soy milk with patongo dough sticks, grilled pork, and curries ladled over rice — most under 100 THB.
Come between 6am and 9am for the best energy and freshest picks; by late morning, many stalls sell out. There are simple food counters upstairs and along the frontage if you want to sit a minute, plus vendors selling fruit, desserts, and made-to-order stir-fries to go. It’s practical, local, and a handy place to stock up on snacks if you’re staying nearby.
You’ll find the market in Wang Mai, Pathum Wan — a 10-minute walk from MRT Sam Yan and close to Chulalongkorn University and Samyan Mitrtown. Daily hours run roughly 5am to 5pm, but the breakfast crowd is the move. Expect fair prices, friendly vendors, and a slice of everyday Bangkok that most visitors miss.
