Raan Jay Fai

Raan Jay Fai is the Michelin-star legend on Maha Chai Road, a quick 10–15 minute walk from Khao San. You’ll spot Jay Fai behind the woks in ski goggles, hand-frying every order over roaring flames. The famous crab omelette runs about 1,200–1,500 THB (~$33–$42), and the pad kee mao with crab is the backup if the omelette sells out. (Last checked Mar 2026.) Expect a queue and a paper waitlist; put your name down and be patient. It’s an open-air shophouse, smoky and theatrical, with backpackers, chefs, and Bangkok foodies sharing tables. Go weekday late afternoon to trim the wait; the show at the wok is half the meal.
