About

A compact, easy-going night market right in the center of town, the Chiang Rai Night Bazaar lights up daily from 6pm to 11pm just steps from Bus Terminal 1. It’s smaller than Chiang Mai’s version, which is exactly the charm — you can actually wander the lanes, chat with stall owners, and still have time for a late beer. Grab a seat in the open-air food court where a central stage hosts live music and traditional northern dance most nights. Order a spread of street-food plates (think grilled skewers, fried snacks, noodle bowls) and you’ll still keep it cheap — most bites run about 30–80 THB. It’s plastic chairs, cold beers, and the kind of casual dinner that turns into a long, people-watching session as performers rotate on stage. Shopping here leans local. Hill-tribe artisans sell hand‑woven scarves, silver jewelry, bamboo crafts, and small souvenirs that actually feel made in the north. Prices are fair, and a friendly bit of bargaining is normal. Weekends bring more energy and more stalls; if you’re here on Saturday, the nearby Walking Street spills through Thanalai Road and pairs perfectly with a pre- or post-browse meal at the bazaar. Practical tip: arrive around 6:30–7pm as vendors finish setting up, then aim for a table near the stage if you want the show, or tucked at the edge if you prefer conversation. The Clock Tower is a 5-minute walk away if you’re making a loop of the old center.
