Kalasin

Kalasin is dinosaur country — the Sirindhorn Museum and Phu Kum Khao excavation site showcase one of Southeast Asia's richest fossil beds, with full sauropod skeletons and interactive exhibits. The province has leaned hard into its prehistoric identity, with dinosaur statues lining the highways and a dedicated dino park near the museum. It's a genuine draw for families and anyone interested in paleontology.

Beyond the fossils, Kalasin is deep Isan. Phu Phan mountain range crosses the north of the province with viewpoints and forest trails. The town of Kalasin itself has a solid morning market and is known for Phu Thai ethnic weaving — the intricate patterned fabrics are sold at local cooperatives. Lam Pao Reservoir is a popular local picnic spot, and the annual Phuk Sieo festival (a friendship-bonding celebration unique to Kalasin) brings parades, dancing, and a welcoming energy that captures the Isan spirit.
