Chachoengsao

Just an hour east of Bangkok, Chachoengsao is best known as a merit-making day trip. Wat Sothon Wararam Worawihan houses one of Thailand's most sacred Buddha images — Luang Pho Sothon — and the temple complex buzzes with devotees year-round. The surrounding streets are packed with amulet vendors and food stalls selling the province's famous khanom jeen (rice noodles with curry).

Beyond the temple, the Bang Pakong River defines the province. The Khlong Suan 100-Year Market is a charming canal-side bazaar with wooden shophouses, vintage goods, and traditional Thai sweets. For families, the Chachoengsao countryside is dotted with farm-stay resorts and fruit orchards. The town of Bang Khla has a small but atmospheric riverside market and a reputation for grilled river prawns. It's not a multi-day destination, but it's one of the best half-day escapes from Bangkok that most tourists skip.
