About the Chapel

Luce Memorial Chapel is a Christian chapel located in the Beitun District area of Taichung, Taichung City, Taiwan. It was built in 1963 and is named after Henry W. Luce, the founder of Time Inc. and a major benefactor of the chapel. The chapel was designed by the famous architect I.M. Pei, who also designed the Louvre Pyramid in Paris and the Bank of China Tower in Hong Kong.

The chapel is known for its unique architecture, which combines traditional Chinese elements with modern Western styles. It has a hexagonal shape and a curved roof, which symbolizes the unity of heaven and earth. The interior of the chapel is decorated with beautiful stained glass windows, which depict scenes from the life of Jesus Christ.

Visiting the Chapel

The chapel is open to visitors every day from 9am to 5pm. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated. Visitors are required to dress modestly and remove their shoes before entering the chapel.
