About Adachi Museum of Art
The Adachi Museum of Art is a museum located in the Matsue area of Shimane, Shimane, Japan. It was founded in 1970 by Zenko Adachi, a businessman who collected Japanese art throughout his life. The museum is famous for its collection of modern Japanese paintings, as well as its beautiful Japanese garden. The garden has been awarded the "Best Garden in Japan" award by the Journal of Japanese Gardening for 18 consecutive years.
What to See
The Adachi Museum of Art has a collection of over 1,500 paintings, including works by famous Japanese artists such as Yokoyama Taikan, Sakakibara Shiho, and Uemura Shoen. The museum also has a collection of ceramics, calligraphy, and other art objects. The highlight of the museum, however, is its garden. The garden covers an area of 165,000 square meters and features a large pond, waterfalls, and carefully manicured trees and shrubs. Visitors can enjoy the garden from inside the museum through large windows that provide panoramic views.
How to Get There
The Adachi Museum of Art is located in Yasugi, Shimane, which is about 30 minutes by train from Matsue. From Matsue Station, take the Ichibata Electric Railway to Yasugi Station. From there, take the Adachi Museum of Art bus to the museum. The bus ride takes about 20 minutes. Alternatively, visitors can take a taxi from Yasugi Station to the museum, which takes about 15 minutes.
Opening Hours and Admission Fees
The Adachi Museum of Art is open daily from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm. The museum is closed on December 31st and January 1st. Admission fees are as follows:
- Adults: 2,300 yen
- High School and University Students: 1,800 yen
- Elementary and Junior High School Students: 1,000 yen
