Sakurajima Volcano

Sakurajima is an active volcano located in the Kagoshima Prefecture of Japan. It is situated approximately 31.6° N latitude and 130.6° E longitude.

History

Sakurajima has a long history of eruptions, with the first recorded eruption dating back to 708 AD. The volcano has erupted more than 30 times since 1955, with the most recent eruption occurring in 2016.

Visiting Sakurajima

Visitors can take a ferry from Kagoshima City to Sakurajima Island, where the volcano is located. Once on the island, visitors can take a bus or rent a car to explore the area.
