Yoshinogari Historical Park Guide

If you are interested in Japanese history and culture, the Yoshinogari Historical Park in Saga city, Japan is a must-visit destination. This archaeological site showcases the remains of an ancient settlement that dates back to the Yayoi period (300 BC – 300 AD).

The park covers an area of 117 hectares and is divided into several zones that offer different experiences for visitors. Here are some of the highlights:

Zone 1: Museum Zone

This zone is home to the Yoshinogari History Museum, which displays artifacts and models that provide insight into the daily life of the Yayoi people. You can also watch a short film that explains the history of the site.

Zone 2: Excavation Zone

If you want to see the actual ruins of the settlement, head to this zone. You can walk around the excavated areas and see the foundations of houses, storage pits, and defensive walls. There are also reconstructed buildings that give a sense of what the village might have looked like.

Zone 3: Experience Zone

This zone is all about hands-on activities. You can try your hand at making pottery, weaving, and other traditional crafts. There is also an archery range where you can practice your aim.

Zone 4: Nature Zone

If you need a break from the historical and cultural attractions, this zone offers some peaceful green space. There are walking trails that take you through forests and fields, and a pond where you can relax and watch the ducks.

The park is open from 9am to 5pm every day except Mondays (or the following day if Monday is a national holiday). Admission is 420 yen for adults and 80 yen for children. The park is located at approximately 33.3614° N, 130.4839° E.
