Wat Phantao
About
Wat Phantao is one of the Old City’s few all-teak temples: a dark, fragrant Lanna viharn carved from reclaimed teak, once a royal throne hall. You’ll find it on Prapokklao Road, directly beside Wat Chedi Luang—easy to combine the two.
Entry is free; drop a donation at the door. Go early morning for quiet or around sunset for warm light on the gold stencils and naga stairs. If you’re here for Yi Peng/Loy Krathong (November), the bamboo grove and pond glow with candles and lanterns—photographers love it. Dress modestly; this is an active monastery.
