About
Set just off Makrut Road in central Pattani, Wat Nopphawongsaram is a small, serene Dhammayut Buddhist temple where the city slows down. Step past the gate and you’ll find tidy grounds, low frangipani shade, and the soft tap of wooden bells in the breeze. Monks in saffron move between the viharn and kutis, and you’ll often catch neighbors stopping in to light incense before heading back to the market.
The ubosot is simple and well kept, with classic southern Thai lines and quiet murals that reward a closer look. Out back, a bright chedi and neatly swept courtyards make it an easy place to sit a moment and reset. Locals say the temple enshrines sacred relics in the chedi, and on Buddhist holy days (Wan Phra) you’ll see families bringing offerings and joining chants.
Practical bits: it’s on Makrut Rd (ถนนมะกรูด) in Sabarang, a few minutes from the river and old town streets; look for the blue street signs and temple archway. Entry is free; donations are appreciated. Dress modestly, and if you can, swing by in the cool of the morning or late afternoon when the light is gentle and the chants carry across the courtyard.
