Wat Neramit Wipassana
Dan Sai’s hilltop laterite temple with a faithful Phra Phuttha Chinnarat replica and storybook murals. Quiet on most days, lively around Phi Ta Khon. Open 6am–6pm; free entry. Combine with nearby Phra That Si Song Rak for an easy loop.
About
Wat Neramit Wipassana is Dan Sai’s showpiece temple, set on a low hill just outside town with views over rice fields and the Puan River valley. The standout is the bóht (ordination hall), built from warm laterite blocks that glow in late-afternoon light. Step inside and you’ll find a meticulous replica of Phra Phuttha Chinnarat from Phitsanulok, framed by a black-and-gold backdrop and towering pillars, with detailed murals tracing the Buddha’s life and Jataka tales.
Wander the landscaped grounds to a laterite mondop and a small museum dedicated to Luang Pu Mahaphan, a revered local monk; there’s a lifelike wax figure and donated artifacts from the community. It’s peaceful most days, with the odd school group or merit-makers stopping by, but the energy ramps up around Phi Ta Khon festival weekend when Dan Sai fills with visitors.
Practical bits: it’s a 5-minute drive from central Dan Sai and a few minutes from Phra That Si Song Rak, so pair the two. Dress modestly and slip off your shoes before entering the hall. Open daily 6am–6pm; entry is free, donations welcome. Aim for late afternoon for softer light on the laterite and easy photos. Last verified May 2026.
