Wat Khao Rang Samakkhitham

Hillside Phuket temple crowned by a giant golden seated Buddha. Climb the naga staircase to mirror‑mosaic halls, ring the bells, and catch Phuket Town views. Free entry, open daily 6:30am–5pm—quiet, local feel compared to the Big Buddha crowds.

About

Set on the slope of Khao Rang above Phuket Town, Wat Khao Rang Samakkhitham is the temple you spot by its gleaming golden seated Buddha. Climb past the naga-guarded stairways and you’ll find bright, mirror‑trimmed halls, prayer bells, and a peaceful compound where incense hangs in the air and the city hum fades away. It’s an easy detour from Old Town and a calm counterpoint to the crowds at Chalong’s Big Buddha. Come early when the light hits the Buddha’s face and the grounds are quiet, or late afternoon for softer shade. Entry is free; donations are welcome. Dress respectfully (shoulders and knees covered). The temple keeps straightforward hours—roughly sunrise to late afternoon—so don’t leave it too late. From the terrace you can peek over Phuket Town’s rooftops before heading a few minutes up the hill to the formal Khao Rang Viewpoint for the wide‑angle shot. Practicalities: the main gate is on the Khao Rang hillside in Ratsada, just above Phuket Town. It’s a short ride from Thalang and Yaowarat roads in Old Town, and tuk‑tuks or Grab will know it. Open daily 6:30am–5pm (last verified 2026).
