Wat Chiang Man
About
In the Old City’s northeast corner, Wat Chiang Man is Chiang Mai’s oldest temple, founded by King Mengrai when he established the city. Slip inside for shady courtyards and classic Lanna roofs a few quiet steps from the moat.
The standout is the Elephant Chedi, a gold-capped stupa hoisted on a ring of weathered elephants. In the ordination hall, find two revered images: the crystal Phra Sae Tang Khamani and the ancient stone Phra Sila. Go early for soft light and locals making merit. Dress modestly and leave shoes at the door.
