Wat Chana Songkhram Ratchaworamahawihan
18th‑century royal temple steps from Khao San. Slip into quiet courtyards and an opulent viharn with a gilded Buddha. Opens 7:30am daily (Mon to 6:30pm). Enter on Chakrabongse Rd by Phra Athit; dress modestly.
About
Two minutes off Khao San Road, slip into Wat Chana Songkhram Ratchaworamahawihan via Rambuttri Alley in Banglamphu. This working royal temple (the name means “victory in war”) is a calm reset from the bar crawl. Free entry; visit in daylight and dress modestly (shoulders/knees covered).
Expect shaded courtyards, a golden chedi, and a mural-lined ordination hall; remove shoes and keep voices low. Locals stop to light incense and make merit, travelers pause between coffee and cocktails. Best times are early morning or late afternoon for cooler temps. Donation boxes sit by the main hall; incense and lotus flowers are sold outside on Rambuttri.
