The Wanderer
Chiang Rai’s “cafe in the woods” for slow-bar coffee, coconut cake and shady garden tables. Generous portions, decent Wi‑Fi, and a calm Rim Kok setting by the river. Closed Mon–Tue; open to late afternoon—go early on weekends.
About
A cafe in the woods just north of town, The Wanderer feels like you’ve slipped into a pocket of Chiang Rai jungle. Follow the path under big trees to a glass-and-wood pavilion wrapped in ferns, birdsong and dappled light. It’s an easy place to lose an hour with a flat white and a slice of coconut cake while the ceiling fans spin and the air stays cool.
Coffee is the draw: beans are sourced from northern Thai farms, and the baristas don’t rush the extractions. Expect smooth espresso, proper pour-overs and iced coffee done right. The menu leans comfort—light Thai plates, fresh salads and cakes that sell out on weekends. Portions are generous, prices reasonable for the setting, and there’s solid Wi‑Fi plus roomy tables if you need to check email between temple runs.
Come early on Saturday or Sunday for the calm; it fills by late morning with couples, families and camera-toting cafe hunters. Weekdays are quieter. The space sits in Rim Kok by the river, about a short ride from the Night Bazaar. Closed Monday and Tuesday; otherwise open until late afternoon—go before 3pm if you want first pick of the bakes.
