Golden hour doesn’t get better in the Old Town than down by the river. Head to the riverside berm at Santichaiprakan Park by Phra Sumen Fort on Phra Athit Road and watch Rama VIII Bridge light up as the sky goes from peach to neon. Long‑tail boats cut across the Chao Phraya, a soft breeze comes off the water, and photographers line up for that money shot as the bridge lamps flick on. It’s an easy 8–10 minute walk from Khao San. Aim to arrive 20–30 minutes before sunset to claim a spot on the steps or the grass. You’ll find students, neighborhood uncles, and backpackers all doing the same thing: snacking, chatting, and letting Bangkok slow down for a moment. Bring a cold drink or fruit from Phra Athit’s street carts, stay through blue hour, then wander the road for live music bars and inexpensive Thai plates. Practical tip: sunsets swing between roughly 5:45pm–6:45pm through the year in Bangkok; Fridays and Sundays draw a slightly bigger crowd. It’s free, there’s no fuss, and the view of the bridge stealing the scene never disappoints.
