Saturday Night Market Old Sukhothai
Saturday-only street market in Old Sukhothai by the Historical Park. Snack on Sukhothai noodles (40–60 THB), moo ping, kanom krok and iced tea. Go 5–7pm for sunset vibes; mostly locals and cash only.
About
Old Sukhothai comes alive every Saturday afternoon when the village streets just outside the Historical Park fill with smoke from grills and the clink of woks. Stalls line the lane with views toward the ruins, and the crowd skews local—families on motorbikes, teens sharing skewers, aunties packaging sweets for the ride home. It’s an early market: things kick off mid‑afternoon and wind down soon after sunset, so come hungry and come on time.
Eat your way through the classics. Grab a bowl of Sukhothai noodles—thin rice noodles in a tangy pork broth with long beans and ground peanuts—usually 40–60 THB. Follow it with moo ping (grilled pork) for about 10–15 THB a stick, som tam pounded to order, and crisp kanom krok hot off the griddle. Save room for coconut ice cream, pandan cakes, and plastic cups of Thai tea that won’t dent your budget. Most signs are in Thai, but vendors are friendly; point, smile, and you’ll be fed.
Timing is everything. Aim to arrive around 5pm to catch golden light over the ponds before you graze through the stalls; by 7pm many vendors are sold out. If you’re staying in New Sukhothai, hop a songthaew to the Old Town and walk from the park entrance. It’s simple, tasty, and very local—an easy add-on after an afternoon cycling the ruins.
