Satay Sri Muang (Original)
Pattani’s satay legend: charcoal-grilled chicken and beef with rich peanut sauce, ajad pickles, and Pattani-style rojak. Daytime only (9am–5pm). Find it on Kala Pho Rd, corner Soi 2. Sets run in the local range — easy on the wallet and big on flavor.
About
Charcoal smoke and turmeric hit you first on Kala Pho Road. Satay Sri Muang is Pattani’s old-school satay shop, still working the grill on the corner of Soi 2 the way they’ve done for decades. Skewers of chicken and beef are marinated southern-style, then kissed over coals until lightly charred and juicy, served with house peanut sauce and crisp ajad pickles. Ask for a mix set and a side of compressed rice (“khao korn”) the way locals do.
There are just a few things on the menu, and that’s the point: chicken satay, beef satay, and Pattani-style rojak (ro-yeh) — a sweet-sour fruit and veg salad that lands somewhere between ajad and a Malay salad, fantastic for cutting through the richness. Expect prices in the local range (recent sets reported around 35–60 THB) and quick turnover.
It’s a daytime stop — opens around 9am and winds down by late afternoon — so aim for lunch. You’ll find it on Kala Pho Rd at the corner with Soi 2 in Anoru, Mueang Pattani. Simple tables, steady locals, and that unmistakable grill aroma doing all the marketing. (Hours last checked Apr 2026.)
