Ratchadamnoen Contemporary Art Center

Serious contemporary art next to Democracy Monument. Free entry, air‑con galleries over three floors with rotating Thai shows, from installations to photography. Open 10am–7pm Tue–Sun; an easy walk from Khao San.

About

On Ratchadamnoen Klang, a few steps from Democracy Monument, RCAC is where Bangkok’s contemporary art scene stretches its legs. Walk into cool, white-cube galleries spread across three floors, with rotating exhibitions that swing from large-scale installations and video art to photography, painting, and design. You’ll often catch student showcases alongside established Thai names, which keeps things fresh and grounded in what local artists are actually making now. It’s free to enter and easy to linger. The spaces are bright, air‑conditioned, and thoughtfully laid out, so you can move at your own pace without feeling rushed. Weekdays are quiet; weekends bring a mix of art students, creatives, and curious travelers. If you’re staying around Khao San, it’s a 10–15 minute walk straight down Ratchadamnoen. Time it for late afternoon, then watch the lights come up around the monument. RCAC also hosts talks and occasional workshops in its auditorium and project rooms, so check what’s on before you go. Regular hours run 10am–7pm Tuesday to Sunday (closed Mondays and public holidays). Last verified May 2026.
