Princess Lagoon

Emerald sinkhole in Railay, reached via a rope-assisted scramble. Expect mud and a couple of near-vertical drops. Go in dry weather, wear trainers, and aim for morning or late afternoon. Long-tail to Railay East, then follow the Viewpoint trail.

About

Princess Lagoon is the emerald pool tucked inside Railay’s limestone crown — a hidden, tidal sinkhole ringed by jungle and 100‑meter cliffs. Getting there is half the thrill: take a long‑tail to Railay East, then find the small “Viewpoint” trail sign along the jungle wall and start climbing. Ten sweaty minutes lands you at the East Railay viewpoint; from there, the real descent begins — a near‑vertical scramble down to the lagoon. Expect ropes, red clay, and a couple of sections where you’ll be lowering yourself backwards. It’s short but intense, and flip‑flops are a terrible idea. Wear trainers, go when it’s dry, and bring water — you will get muddy. The payoff at the bottom is a tranquil, jade-green pool hemmed in by limestone, with roots and ledges to perch on while you cool off. Timing matters. Aim for early morning or late afternoon to dodge the midday furnace, and try for mid to high tide when the lagoon is fuller and cleaner. There’s no lighting on the trail, so start back up well before dark. Practicalities: reach Railay by long‑tail boat from Ao Nang or Krabi Town (boats run all day; fares vary). The trailhead sits a few minutes’ walk from Railay East Beach. Pack light, keep your hands free for the ropes, and leave no trace — this place stays special when everyone treats it gently.
