Princess Cave

A seaside shrine with a story: Princess Cave sits at the end of Phra Nang Beach, filled with colorful offerings and carved phallic symbols. Free to visit, best at sunrise or late afternoon. Expect cliff climbers, curious monkeys, and unreal turquoise water.

About

Tucked at the far end of Phra Nang Beach on the Railay peninsula, Princess Cave is a small seaside grotto with a big story. Locals come to pay respects to Phra Nang — the Princess Goddess — leaving garlands, incense, and a striking collection of carved wooden offerings inside the cave. It’s part shrine, part folklore lesson, and completely unique to Krabi’s coastline. Come early, before the longtail boats start dropping day-trippers, and you’ll have the soft sand and glassy water almost to yourself. The limestone cliffs rise straight out of the bay; climbers clip in above while monkeys skitter along the rocks looking for snacks. Step into the cool shade of the cave to see the shrine up close, then swim out a few meters for postcard views back to the beach. Practical bit: it’s free to visit. From Railay West or East it’s an easy 10-minute walk to the southern tip; from Ao Nang, longtail boats run all day to Railay (weather permitting). Dress modestly if you plan to make an offering, and be respectful around the shrine. Best light hits late afternoon, but mornings are quiet and calm — ideal if you’re here for photos rather than crowds.
