Phraya Kankak Museum
Giant toad-shaped museum by Lam Tuan Reservoir telling Yasothon’s rain-god and Rocket Festival legends. Walk inside, then climb to the mouth for lake views. ~40 THB entry; pair it with Wiman Phaya Tan next door. Weekdays 10am–4:30pm, weekends to 5:30pm.
About
A 19-meter, toad-shaped landmark on the edge of Lam Tuan Reservoir, Phraya Kankak Museum celebrates Yasothon’s rain lore and the Bun Bang Fai (Rocket) Festival. Walk inside the toad’s belly through four compact floors of exhibits that mix folklore, local ecology, and festival culture. It’s quirky and genuinely informative—expect models of rockets, thunder myths, and kid-friendly displays that make the stories click even if you don’t speak much Thai.
The payoff is the viewpoint in the toad’s open mouth, where a breeze rolls in off the water and you can look across Phaya Thaen Public Park. It’s a quick, fun stop that pairs well with neighboring Wiman Phaya Tan (the serpent-like hall about the rain god) just across the promenade—locals often do both on one ticket. Plan 30–60 minutes here, a bit more if you linger for photos at sunset.
Practical bits: the museum sits inside Phaya Thaen Park, off Thanon Wareeratchadetch, a few minutes’ drive from Yasothon’s bus terminal. Tickets are budget-friendly (around 40 THB for adults, ~20 THB for kids). Hours run 10:00am–4:30pm on weekdays and 9:00am–5:30pm on weekends (last checked 2026). Call ahead if you’re timing a visit around a holiday or the Rocket Festival weekend.
