พระธาตุเกาะเต่า
Short hike above Sairee to a Burmese-style pagoda with Burmese, Chinese and Thai Buddha images. Free, peaceful, and best near sunset for views over Sairee and Koh Nang Yuan. Modest dress; 10–15 minutes from upper Sairee.
About
High on the ridge above Sairee, Phra That Koh Tao (the Burmese Pagoda) is the island’s quietest sacred spot. Locals head up on Buddhist holy days, but most afternoons you’ll have it to yourself: a small hilltop complex with a stupa and shrines dotted with Burmese, Chinese and Thai Buddha images, incense and flags fluttering in the sea breeze.
Getting there is half the fun. From upper Sairee, follow the steep back road past Star Villa, then turn left at the small sign for the pagoda and climb the stone steps to the lower temple. From there, a short final push leads to the upper shrine. You can ride up on a scooter part of the way, but the last bit is on foot and the gradients are no joke — confident riders only.
Go late afternoon for softer light and long views across Sairee Beach to Koh Nang Yuan as the sun drops. Dress modestly and remove shoes around prayer halls. There’s no ticket booth or touts here, just a peaceful place to catch your breath and make a quiet wish before heading back down for dinner on the beach.
