Pai Night Market

Pai’s Walking Street turns into a nightly food-and-crafts market by 6pm. Snack on gyozas, grilled pork, spicy squid and garlic‑cheese bread, sip fruit smoothies, then browse handmade jewelry and tie‑dye. Cash preferred. Daily 6–10pm in the center of town.

About

As the sun drops behind Pai’s hills, Walking Street wakes up. Grills flare, lanterns glow, and the whole strip turns into a nightly market that’s equal parts dinner crawl and souvenir hunt. Follow the smoke and sizzling pans from stall to stall and you’ll catch live buskers on corners, the sweet smell of roti, and a steady stream of travelers swapping tips over plastic cups and skewers. Come hungry. It’s a street‑food tour where you set the pace: pan‑fried gyozas, grilled pork fresh off the charcoal, fried spicy squid, and homemade chicken wraps you’ll see pressed to order. Look for the cult‑favorite garlic‑cheese bread (some dress it with a drizzle of honey), plus fruit smoothies and plenty of vegan and gluten‑free bites if you’re avoiding meat or wheat. Portions are snack‑size, so it’s easy to graze without blowing the budget. Between bites, browse the craft stalls for hand‑stamped jewelry, tie‑dye and indigo shirts, hill‑tribe textiles, soaps and balms, and the sort of postcards you’ll actually send. Most vendors prefer cash; there are ATMs along the street but it’s easier if you bring small bills. The market runs right through the heart of town, so you can roll out of your guesthouse and be in it within minutes. Aim for sunset to beat the crowds, then linger until 10pm when the grills wind down.
