Morning Market (Talat Chao)

Old Bangkok’s breakfast lane near the Giant Swing: jok porridge, moo ping, rice‑and‑curry, and khanom krok from 5am to around 10am. Cash only, small bills. About a 15‑minute walk from Khao San or 8–10 minutes from MRT Sam Yot (Exit 2). Go early.

About

Slip out early and wander down Ratchabophit Road, just past the Giant Swing, and you’ll find Bangkok waking up at the Trok Mor morning market. From around 5am the lane fills with steam, clatter, and the smell of charcoal — aunties ladle hot jok (rice porridge), vendors fan moo ping (grilled pork skewers), and curry pots line up for grab‑and‑go breakfasts. It’s a 12–15 minute walk from Khao San Road, and it starts winding down by 9:30–10am, so go early. This is old‑town Bangkok at table height: plastic stools, enamel bowls, and friendly banter. Pick up a rice‑and‑curry plate, sweet khanom krok fresh off the griddle, soy milk with crispy patongo for dipping, or sliced tropical fruit to go. Most breakfasts land in the 40–80 THB range, and cash is king — bring small bills. The crowd is mostly locals and office workers, with a few travelers who made the alarm worth it. Practical tip: combine it with a quick look at Wat Suthat and the Giant Swing nearby, or ride MRT Sam Yot (Exit 2) and walk about 8–10 minutes. Hours last checked March 2026. If you love seeing a city before it puts its face on, this is one of the best snapshots of everyday Bangkok within easy reach of Khao San.
