Monkey Corner

The spot on Railay's trail system where the resident macaque troops hang out in force. These long-tailed macaques own this stretch of path between East and West Railay and they know exactly how tourists work — unattended bags get raided, water bottles get snatched, sunglasses disappear. Keep your belongings secured and don't make eye contact or bare your teeth. Despite the thievery, watching them interact is entertaining. Mothers carry babies, juveniles chase each other through the trees, and the big males sit in the middle of the path daring you to pass. Keep a respectful distance. Feeding them is a bad idea — it makes them more aggressive with the next person.
