Khao San Road Night Market
Khao San’s nightly street market fires up from 3pm and peaks 7pm–midnight: pad thai and roti carts, fruit shakes, bargain tees and “elephant pants,” foot massages, tattoos, and those infamous cocktail buckets—all packed into one neon‑loud strip.
About
From late afternoon into the small hours, Khao San Road turns into a full-blown street market. Stalls roll out tarps, woks start flaring, and the soundtrack shifts to bar speakers and live covers up and down the strip. Start at the Chakrabongse end and wander toward Tani Road: you’ll pass pad thai carts, banana roti griddles, fruit shakes, souvenirs, and the infamous cocktail buckets. Foot massage chairs line the curb when you need a breather, and there’s always a cold beer within reach.
Shopping here is quick-hit and fun: graphic tees, tie‑dye and elephant pants, bucket hats, sunglasses, phone cases, braids, and the odd tattoo studio if you’re feeling brave. Prices are negotiable, but you’ll do better if you buy a couple of things from the same vendor and smile while you bargain. If the main drag feels loud, duck into Soi Rambuttri for a softer version of the scene—same street food and stalls, more candlelight and trees.
Peak time is 7pm–midnight when the road is pedestrianized and the energy’s dialed up. Come earlier (around 5–7pm) for easier browsing and fewer elbows; stay later if you’re chasing the bar vibe. ATMs and currency exchange booths sit along Tani Road and the mid‑section of Khao San, and river boats from Phra Arthit Pier (10–12 minutes’ walk) are still the fastest way back toward the BTS.
