Mangrove Boardwalk
A breezy 600m mangrove boardwalk at Bang Pu — think mudskippers, fiddler crabs, and kingfishers, with seagulls swarming the nearby pier Nov–Feb. Easy BTS-to-taxi day trip; go early or late, bring repellent, and linger for sunset on the Gulf.
About
Slip off Bangkok’s concrete and onto a wooden walkway where the city exhales. The Mangrove Boardwalk at Bang Pu threads through brackish creeks and tangled roots on the Gulf of Thailand, a short hop south of town. As you step onto the planks, the air turns salty and cool. Fiddler crabs wave their bright claws from the mud, mudskippers flop between pools, and kingfishers flash electric blue through the trees. Bird hides and small lookout decks tuck along the path so you can pause and let the noise fall away.
It’s an easy, family-friendly stroll — roughly 600 meters of raised boardwalk — with plenty to spot if you slow down. Early mornings are for birds; late afternoons bring soft light and a sea breeze. From November to February, the nearby Bang Pu pier fills with migratory seagulls, a wild little spectacle as the sun drops over the bay. Bring mosquito repellent, a hat, and shoes you don’t mind getting a bit salty.
Getting here is straightforward: ride the BTS to Kheha station and grab a taxi (about 20 minutes) to Bang Pu Recreation Center, then follow signs for the nature trail. There’s a simple Thai restaurant and snack stalls on the seafront if you want to linger after your walk. Pair it with a stop at Ancient City (Muang Boran), 15 minutes away, for an easy DIY day trip from Khao San.
Practical details: the boardwalk sits within Bang Pu Recreation Center, 164 Sukhumvit Rd, Bang Pu Mai, Samut Prakan. Hours tend to follow the center’s public opening; weekdays are quieter than weekends. Last verified March 2026.
