Rows of tiny Buddhas and lucky charms along Maha Rat Road by Tha Phra Chan. Come late morning, browse with the collectors and loupes, and pick up a pendant for 100–300 THB. Daily 10am–6pm; 10–15 minutes’ walk from Khao San.
About
A few minutes’ walk from Khao San, along Maha Rat Road by the river, Bangkok’s amulet market is where collectors, monks, taxi drivers and the superstitious come to trade tiny talismans. Look for the alleys signed Trok Maha That and Trok Phra Chan and you’ll see trays of clay and bronze Buddhas, old coins and lucky charms laid out under glass, with sellers peering through jeweller’s loupes and flipping through thick guidebooks. It’s part street market, part open‑air classroom on Thai belief.
Start at late morning when most stalls are open, and wander south toward Tha Maharaj for coffee with river views. Casual shoppers can pick up a simple pendant or bead bracelet for around 100–300 THB, while serious pieces with stories (and price tags) change hands at specialist booths. Bargaining is expected but polite; bring cash, and ask before taking close‑ups of rare items.
Practical tip: it’s an easy 10–15 minute walk from Khao San across Sanam Luang, or hop off at Tha Phra Chan or Tha Chang pier and follow Maha Rat Road. The market runs daily, roughly 10am–6pm, with the liveliest scene on weekends. When you’re done browsing, grab a street snack or head next door to Tha Maharaj for air‑con and a cold drink.
