Mama Kop
Beachside Thai comfort food in Hin Kong. Regulars swear by the rich Massaman curry and northern-style khao soi. Big portions, vegan-friendly options, wallet-happy prices (curries from ~120 THB). Come for golden-hour sunsets and leave fully fed.
About
A low-key favorite on Koh Phangan’s west coast, Mama Kop does the Thai classics the way locals like to eat them: bold, aromatic, and generously portioned. It sits along Hin Kong Road in the Hin Kong/Sri Thanu area, steps from the water with that easy island breeze drifting through. Grab a table around sunset when the tide creeps over the sand and the sky goes sherbet—this is prime dinner hour.
Order like a regular: their slow-simmered Massaman curry is the move, thick with spice and peanuts, a proper comfort dish with rice (around 120 THB). If you lean north, the khao soi brings a fragrant coconut broth and a tangle of crunchy noodles on top. Vegetarians are looked after too—most curries and stir-fries can be done meat-free without losing flavor.
Service is straightforward, prices are friendly, and the vibe is exactly what you want after a beach day: relaxed, no rush, plates landing hot from the wok. It’s an easy stop if you’re staying in Hin Kong or Sri Thanu; just follow the road that tracks the shoreline and keep an eye out for the hand-painted sign. Open daily 11am–10pm, closed Fridays. Verified March 2026.
