Ko Rang Beach

Crystal-clear snorkelling in Mu Ko Chang National Park. Day trips from Koh Mak/Koh Chang stop at Ko Rang’s reefs with 10–20m visibility, lunch on a tiny sandbar and easy entries — expect tour prices around 700–1,200 THB incl. gear. Best on calm mornings Nov–May.

About

Ko Rang sits in the marine park between Koh Chang and Koh Mak, a tiny island ringed by coral gardens and bathtub-clear water. Most boats drop anchor at the south and east sides where the reefs are healthiest. Slip off the stern and you’re over hard corals, giant clams and clouds of fusiliers within seconds. On calm days you’ll see 10–20 meters down — perfect for stress-free snorkelling and easy underwater photos. Trips here are simple and good value. From Koh Mak it’s the shortest hop; longtails and speedboats run daily in season, usually including mask, fins and a basic lunch. Boats from Koh Chang (often leaving Bang Bao) and Koh Kood also make the circuit, stopping at nearby rocks like Ko Hin Bai and the Yak islets for second and third snorkel sessions. There’s no accommodation on Ko Rang itself — just a ranger outpost and a tiny strip of sand where crews set up for a picnic. Go in the morning when the sea is flatter and the light is best. Peak season is roughly November to May when visibility is highest and trips run reliably. Bring reef-safe sunscreen, a rash guard and some cash for the national park fee if it’s not bundled into your tour (last checked March 2026, operators often include it). If you’re staying on Khao San and craving a quick island fix, this is the classic day out once you’ve made it down to Trat’s islands.
