Hin Kong Beach
Laid-back west-coast bay with a low‑tide sandbar and knockout sunsets. Wander the mangroves, then grab a drink at a beachfront bar like Freeway Bar. Best for paddling at low tide; swim around high tide. About 10–15 minutes from Thong Sala by scooter.
About
On Koh Phangan’s west coast, Hin Kong is where the island slows to a hush. A skinny ribbon of sand curls along a mangrove-fringed bay, and at low tide a long, T‑shaped sandbar appears so you can wander far out with the sea at your ankles. Long‑tails sit quietly on the flats, the water goes glassy, and cameras come out. It’s about 10–15 minutes by scooter from Thong Sala, tucked between Wok Tum and Srithanu.
Come for sunset. When the sky flips to pink and orange, the whole bay glows and the horizon looks endless. A handful of casual beachfront bars and simple Thai kitchens set out low tables in the sand—think cold beers, easy cocktails, and plates of fried rice with your toes in the water. Freeway Bar is a classic perch, and there are small resorts and bungalows dotted along Hin Kong Road if you want to linger.
Swimming here depends on the tide: it’s shallow most of the day and best for paddling or strolling during low tide, then swimmable around mid to high tide. Wear sandals for the sandbar walk, and time your visit for golden hour if you can—the light over Koh Phangan’s west coast is the show. Parking is easy along the roadside; just roll up and pick your spot on the bay.
