Hilltribe Museum
Compact, central primer on Northern Thailand’s hill tribes — costumes, tools, and a multilingual slideshow on the third floor of the PDA Building. Open daily 8:30am–5pm. Ask at the desk about PDA’s responsible village tours.
About
On the third floor of the PDA Building on Thanalai Road, this compact museum gives clear, respectful context to Northern Thailand’s six hill-tribe communities. Run by the Population & Community Development Association, it’s an easy hour with well-written displays, photos and artifacts that explain textiles, tools, ritual objects and the area’s difficult opium-era history.
Expect labeled costumes and everyday items alongside maps and a short multilingual slideshow that stitches it all together without the voyeurism you sometimes find on “tribe tours.” It’s the smart first stop before heading into the countryside — you’ll recognize patterns, symbols and stories when you meet people later.
Practical notes: it’s central (Thanalai Rd., Wiang) and open daily from 8:30am to 5pm. If you’re curious about visiting villages responsibly, ask at the desk about PDA’s own tours, which prioritize community benefit and good information.
