It’s a short stroll from Pattani’s Central Mosque, and by 6am the aisles are alive with aunties bargaining, porters weaving through with styrofoam fish boxes, and the smell of turmeric and lemongrass in the air. Come hungry. Breakfast is very Pattani: halal roti hot off the griddle with tea or coffee, khao yam (southern rice salad) bright with herbs and a splash of budu, skewers and grilled fish smoking over charcoal, and tubs of freshly pounded curry paste to take home. Most quick bites run 30–60 THB, with produce sold by the kilo. Regulars know to shop early when the day’s best catch and crisp greens land, then stop for a roti and a chat before the heat builds. Practical bits: stalls roll open from around 5am and wind down by 6pm. You’ll find it along ถนนยะรัง (Yarang Rd), opposite the Central Mosque; cash is king and small bills help. Go for the morning atmosphere and photos; by late afternoon it’s quieter as vendors pack up for the day.
