East Railay Viewpoint
Steep rope-assisted scramble to a ledge with big views over Railay East and the karst. 10–20 minutes up, free entry. Wear sneakers, go early or late, and keep hands free — the clay gets slick after rain. Spur to Princess Lagoon for confident scramblers.
About
East Railay’s viewpoint is the payoff you earn with a sweaty, 10–20 minute scramble. The trail kicks up straight away from the jungle path that links Railay East to Phra Nang Cave Beach — look for the rope-lined, rust-red clay gully under the limestone wall. From the top ledge you get that classic Railay shot: mangroves and longtails in Railay East below, karst towers jutting in every direction, and the Andaman’s changing blues beyond.
This is a hands-on climb. Expect fixed ropes, tree roots and slick clay after rain. You want sneakers or barefoot grip — flip-flops make it a comedy you don’t need. Go early morning or late afternoon for shade and softer light; midday is a furnace and the ledge gets busy with day-trippers. Bring water, stow your phone securely, and keep your hands free for the ropes.
Feeling strong? A spur continues down to Princess Lagoon — steeper, more technical, and much muddier. Many hikers are happy to tag the viewpoint and skip the lagoon; choose based on conditions and your comfort scrambling. Either way, it’s free entry and an essential Railay moment, five minutes’ walk from the sand but a world away once you’re on the rock. Last verified March 2026.
