East Railay Bay Beach
Mangrove-lined and mellow, East Railay is for sunrise strolls, boardwalk bars, and longtail boats to Krabi Town/Ao Nam Mao — not swimming. Come for golden-hour photos, then duck to Diamond Cave or the viewpoint trail; Railay West and Phra Nang are a short walk away.
About
On Railay’s quieter side, East Railay Bay is a mangrove-fringed shoreline beneath towering limestone cliffs. It’s the longtail pier for boats to and from Krabi Town/Ao Nam Mao, and the place to catch sunrise when the water glows pink over the karsts. A concrete boardwalk runs the length of the bay with palms, simple cafés and bars, and the tide lapping just beyond the mangrove roots.
This isn’t a swimming beach — the bottom is muddy and shallow at low tide — but it’s made for slow walks, photos, and a cold drink with a sea breeze. Come around golden hour for soft light on the cliffs, then wander inland a few minutes to Diamond Cave or follow the path toward the Railay Viewpoint and Princess Lagoon if you’re up for a sweaty scramble. Railay West and Phra Nang Cave Beach are an easy walk away when you want sand you can actually swim from.
Practical tip: boats from Krabi Town/Ao Nam Mao use the East side, while boats from Ao Nang generally land on Railay West. After dark, East Railay stays low-key with reggae playlists and lantern-lit terraces along the boardwalk — a mellow counterpoint to the sunset crowds on the west beach.
