Chong Kam Night market
Lakeside night market by Wat Chong Kham’s glowing temples. Street‑food staples from ~40 THB, low tables on the grass, hill‑tribe crafts, and a mellow crowd. Best from sunset; most stalls wrap by ~10pm, with more action on weekends.
About
On the edge of Nong Chong Kham Lake, with the chedi and viharn of Wat Chong Kham and Wat Chong Klang glowing across the water, this small night market sets the scene for a mellow Mae Hong Son evening. Stalls cluster along Pradit Chong Kham by the park, and locals drift over after sunset for easy dinners and lakeside people‑watching.
Come hungry. You’ll find northern snacks and street‑food classics cooked to order—pad thai and fried mussels for around 40 THB, grilled skewers, spring rolls, noodles, coconut pancakes, fresh fruit and juices. Many people grab a tray and eat on low picnic tables or mats by the water, with the temple lights reflecting off the lake. It’s low‑key and affordable; most dishes are well under 60 THB, so you can sample widely without denting the budget.
Beyond the food, browse simple stalls selling hill‑tribe crafts, woven textiles, handmade jewelry and trinkets. The crowd is a mix of local families and Mae Hong Son Loop riders winding down after a long day’s curves. Stalls usually start setting up around sunset (5–6pm) and most are done by about 10pm, with more vendors on weekends and during the cool season.
Practical tip: arrive just before dusk to catch the sky going blue while the temples light up—arguably Mae Hong Son’s prettiest photo hour. Bring small bills, and if you fancy something adventurous, look for crispy crickets tossed with kaffir lime leaves near the temple gate.
