Bang Lamphu Market
Old-school Banglamphu market just off Khao San for bargain clothes, luggage and the city’s go-to school‑uniform shops. Swing by at dusk when street-food carts fire up and locals shop for dinner. Open Tue–Sun till 10pm; closed Monday.
About
A few minutes’ walk from Khao San, Bang Lamphu Market is where Bangkok locals actually shop. Along Chakrabongse Road you’ll find old-school shophouses stacked with bargain clothes, luggage, cosmetics and daily essentials, plus the neighborhood’s specialty: school‑uniform shops that kit out half the city when term starts. Prices are friendly, English is minimal, and the vibe is very local.
Come late afternoon when the heat dips and more stalls roll up their shutters. By dusk, food carts cluster on side streets with quick dinners and snacks—think grilled meats, noodle bowls, fresh fruit and Thai sweets—perfect fuel before or after a Khao San wander. It’s not curated or cute, just real Bangkok shopping.
Practical tip: the market sits on 61 Chakrabongse Road, about a 5‑minute walk from Khao San and close to Phra Sumen Fort and the river. Most shops keep to daytime hours and stay open until around 10pm from Tuesday to Sunday; Mondays are generally closed. Bring cash and a bit of patience—this is a locals’ market first, and that’s the charm. Hours last checked April 2026.
