Ao Nang Beach
Krabi’s sunset strand with longtails lined up for Railay and the 4 Islands. Swim by day, then hit the promenade for cheap eats and foot massages after dark; for quieter sand, wander west to Noppharat Thara.
About
Ao Nang’s main strip spills right onto this long curve of sand, where limestone karsts frame the horizon and a fleet of longtail boats noses up to the shore. By day, the water is fine for a refreshing dip—even if boat traffic keeps it from that glass‑clear postcard look. Come late afternoon, the light softens, the heat eases, and the whole beach turns toward the sunset. Grab a spot on the wall along the promenade or sit on the sand and watch the sky go orange and pink.
This is Krabi’s launchpad. The ticket booths along the beach organize longtail hops to Railay, Poda, and Chicken Island, with skippers loading up right off the sand. If you’re planning bigger day trips—Hong Islands or Phi Phi—head toward the Noppharat Thara end for speedboat departures and tour desks. It’s all easy and walkable.
When the sun’s gone, Ao Nang shifts gears. The beachfront road lights up with easy Thai restaurants, seafood grills, roti carts, and massage shops doing brisk foot‑rub business. You’ll sometimes catch a fire show flickering on the sand. If you want quieter shoreline without leaving town, stroll west to Noppharat Thara for more space between towels and a calmer vibe.
