Alcove restaurant
Beachfront French bistro on Hin Kong with golden-hour tables, charcuterie and cheese, tuna tartare and Thai plates, a smart wine list, and knockout sunsets. Open Wed–Sun 5:30pm–midnight; book ahead for front-row sand seats.
About
On Hin Kong’s tide-washed shoreline, Alcove restaurant is where Koh Phangan does sunset properly. The French-run bistro sets tables in the sand and opens just in time for golden hour, pouring crisp whites and shaking classic cocktails as the sky turns mango and violet. It’s west coast, low tide, and lantern light — the kind of evening that slows you down whether you planned to or not.
The menu leans French with island sensibilities: generous charcuterie and cheese boards, tuna tartare, lemongrass prawns, fresh seafood and salads, plus a handful of Thai plates for good measure. Portions are fair, plating is polished, and the wine list is better than you’ll expect this far from a city. Ask for a table on the beach if you’re here for sunset; regulars know to book ahead on weekends when there’s often live music and the occasional fire show.
Practical bits: you’ll find it on Hinkong Beach (west coast of Koh Phangan), a short drive north of Thong Sala. Doors open at 5:30pm Wednesday to Sunday; closed Monday and Tuesday. Call +66 94 579 3769 to reserve a front-row table in the sand — it’s worth the effort when the whole bay goes gold.
