If you
are looking for the Khao San Road experience of lore, your
will have to look high and wide to find somewhere on the actual
strip these days. Sometimes you have to look a little further
to see what things they way they were... Places catering for
people on the move where they remember your name next time
they see you!
Taewez Guest House is further away from Khao San Road then
most of the other guesthouses we feature, but it's still only
a 30-minute walk through a pretty interesting neighbourhood
to get there. Best still, Taewez Guest House is near the river
making Khao San only three stops away by river boat from PHRA
ATHIT PIER. Taewez offers clean and practical rooms that fit
a budget. Unlike some places, it has a garden and a friendly
atmosphere. It's located near the Grand Palace and within
reach of many of Bangkok's key

tourist attractions. The area it's in is also well connected
for buses to the railway station. |

| One
of the main attractions about staying at Taewez is the
area it's in - this is real Bangkok; not dressed up at
all for foreign visitors! Traditionally it has been an
area where visitors stay (there are a handful of guesthouses
here which Taewez is one of them) and it has been for
some time, but it hasn't really changed because of this.
Rather than pulsating techno in the background, you can
actually hear people speaking in the street. The food
stalls are there for the locals - and there's not a banana
pancake in sight (not in the daytime at least)! Situated
right next to a Rajabhat (a type of university), the area
is populated by local students as well as tourists and
regular locals. It's a good mix. |
