The Old Days on KSR... Pedrito
writes: "I echo Pierre's experiences of KSR and PB
guest house - couldn't possibly write on a public site
exactly what I saw and experienced there. I do remember
pool tables with fans above each table - watched one guy
lift up the cue after a shot, the cue got caught in the
fan, spun around, hit him in the head and knocked him
for 6. That was a while ago and times have changed. All
seems a bit tame now but still a place I like to visit."

John@KSR: Sadly, some of the recent political problems
in Thailand have had a negative impact on the number of
visitors to the Kingdom. Although I'd never tell people
to ignore their embassy's travel advisories, it's a shame
not to be in Thailand at this time of year. Fact is, I
have been in Bangkok throughout the 'state of emergency'
and the biggest problem I encountered during the period
was being late for work a couple of times because of political
rallies - and that happens on regular occasions anyway.
You of course have to make up your own mind, but to help
make the decision a bit easier, some of the accommodation
outlets around KSR are offering some nice discounts! Check

Meditation... So many

good advice as to how to receive guidance and proper practice
while in Bangkok. This little site has a complete run

The
Phuket Vegetarian Festival starts today coinciding with
a national vegetarian festival that lasts about a week
– expect more veggie food on the scene. Not that those
guys down in Phuket are that concerned about vegetarian
food. In fact they are more inclined to put anything other
than food in their mouths over the coming period. Kirsty
Turner tells us more... Click here for info on the Phuket

Scamwatch…
Steve
writes: "Long distance taxi from Surat Thani to Malaysia.
If you're taking a long distance taxi (truck/car) from
Surat Thani to the Malaysian border some operators are
telling people that they _must_ have cash to get across
the border. E.g. they'll tell you that you must have at
least MYR600 (THB7,000) for the Malaysian authorities
to allow you into Malaysia. The scammers hope you a) believe
them and b) have no Ringgit. 9 times out of 10 you\'re
setting off very early (e.g.4am) so there's no way you
can delay your taxi until the banks open to change your
bhatt for ringgit. But fortunately it's OK because, guess
what, the taxi people can change your money for you. Needless
to say a) they\'ll rip you off, giving you half the ringgit
you should get for your bhatt and b) it\'s a complete
scam and has no truth to it. Don't fall for changing your
money with them, or anyone else other than a bank - bona-fide
bureau de change. You know, places with the exchange rates
all lit up on a big board! Hope this helps." Thanks
for this Steve...
Missing Person…
Lynn writes: "The family of Robert
Bailey, age 50 are worried about him as he has not
been in contact with anyone back in England since he flew
to Bangkok in January 2008. The last sighting that we
know of was in March this year in Bangkok. Robert is a
regular traveller to Thailand and the rest of Asia. He
always keeps in regular contact with his family and friends
in the UK so this lack of contact is very out of character.
If anyone has any information about Robert, no matter
how trivial, please could you get in touch. Thanks".

Trying to find a child…
Mike
writes: "Help!!! Trying to find Amerasian child born
1975 in Bangkok Thailand. Please inform me of the best
way of finding her. Details that I can provide are all
from memory. The mother's name is Suphan Phetphakdi, last
known address, 4/10 Soi Rajaphan, Bangkok 4 Thailand.
Child born 1975 Bangkok, Thailand. The spelling of the
last name could be wrong, it may be Phetpakdi and the
spelling of the street may be wrong as it's been over
25 years. I know this is not much information, but it's
all I have. You have made my day, giving me a little hope
that I may find her." Does anyone know of any organizations,
or perhaps even government departments that can help people
trace "half Thai" children? I remember there was something,
but if my memory serves me it was something to do with
Vietnam vets - possibly not the right thing. If you know
of anyone who can help, let Mike know and let
us know, too.
