A great place to stay only 10 or 15 minutes walk from Khao San Road in Bangkok, Thailand

The Old Days on KSR... Pedrito writes: "I echo Pierre's experiences of KSR and PB guest house - couldn't possibly write on a public site exactly what I saw and experienced there. I do remember pool tables with fans above each table - watched one guy lift up the cue after a shot, the cue got caught in the fan, spun around, hit him in the head and knocked him for 6. That was a while ago and times have changed. All seems a bit tame now but still a place I like to visit." Click here for more on the old days on Khao San Road.

Khao San Road Promotions…
John@KSR: Sadly, some of the recent political problems in Thailand have had a negative impact on the number of visitors to the Kingdom. Although I'd never tell people to ignore their embassy's travel advisories, it's a shame not to be in Thailand at this time of year. Fact is, I have been in Bangkok throughout the 'state of emergency' and the biggest problem I encountered during the period was being late for work a couple of times because of political rallies - and that happens on regular occasions anyway. You of course have to make up your own mind, but to help make the decision a bit easier, some of the accommodation outlets around KSR are offering some nice discounts! Check out these promotions so far here: Banglumpoo Place
; Viengtai Hotel; Trang Hotel, Baan Chantra.

Bus... Bob writes: "Greetings - Lonely Planet states that one can catch a public bus direct from the new airport to Nong Khai for 454B.

Meditation... So many people are interested in this topic, while so few get good advice as to how to receive guidance and proper practice while in Bangkok. This little site has a complete run down of everything happening in Bangkok as far as meditation and related practices are concerned. Little Bangkok Sangha Blog is totally worth delving every now and again just to see what's going on!

Delicious!

The Phuket Vegetarian Festival starts today coinciding with a national vegetarian festival that lasts about a week – expect more veggie food on the scene. Not that those guys down in Phuket are that concerned about vegetarian food. In fact they are more inclined to put anything other than food in their mouths over the coming period. Kirsty Turner tells us more... Click here for info on the Phuket Vegetarian Festival.

Bus... Duzzi writes: "I need to know how and where i have to request a business visa for a thailand citizen for congo Brazzaville." Anyone?

Vimanmek Mansion is the largest royal residence in Dusit Garden area. Its elaborate architectural style reflects a western influence. The building has two right-angled wings each 60 meters long and 20 meters high. It is a three-storey building except for the area where the King resided which is octagonal and has four stories. Scamwatch…
Steve writes: "Long distance taxi from Surat Thani to Malaysia. If you're taking a long distance taxi (truck/car) from Surat Thani to the Malaysian border some operators are telling people that they _must_ have cash to get across the border. E.g. they'll tell you that you must have at least MYR600 (THB7,000) for the Malaysian authorities to allow you into Malaysia. The scammers hope you a) believe them and b) have no Ringgit. 9 times out of 10 you\'re setting off very early (e.g.4am) so there's no way you can delay your taxi until the banks open to change your bhatt for ringgit. But fortunately it's OK because, guess what, the taxi people can change your money for you. Needless to say a) they\'ll rip you off, giving you half the ringgit you should get for your bhatt and b) it\'s a complete scam and has no truth to it. Don't fall for changing your money with them, or anyone else other than a bank - bona-fide bureau de change. You know, places with the exchange rates all lit up on a big board! Hope this helps." Thanks for this Steve...

Missing Person…
Lynn writes: "The family of Robert Bailey, age 50 are worried about him as he has not been in contact with anyone back in England since he flew to Bangkok in January 2008. The last sighting that we know of was in March this year in Bangkok. Robert is a regular traveller to Thailand and the rest of Asia. He always keeps in regular contact with his family and friends in the UK so this lack of contact is very out of character. If anyone has any information about Robert, no matter how trivial, please could you get in touch. Thanks".

Tattoo… Translated!

Sandrine Sisho writes: "Hello, Can you tell me what this tatto means ? It'd like to have it done on my shoulder." Ann from Annapsara Travel at May Kai Dee's restaurant cme through with a translation. Still have to find the meaning though!

Trying to find a child…
Mike writes: "Help!!! Trying to find Amerasian child born 1975 in Bangkok Thailand. Please inform me of the best way of finding her. Details that I can provide are all from memory. The mother's name is Suphan Phetphakdi, last known address, 4/10 Soi Rajaphan, Bangkok 4 Thailand. Child born 1975 Bangkok, Thailand. The spelling of the last name could be wrong, it may be Phetpakdi and the spelling of the street may be wrong as it's been over 25 years. I know this is not much information, but it's all I have. You have made my day, giving me a little hope that I may find her." Does anyone know of any organizations, or perhaps even government departments that can help people trace "half Thai" children? I remember there was something, but if my memory serves me it was something to do with Vietnam vets - possibly not the right thing. If you know of anyone who can help, let Mike know and let us know, too.

Aquatini for a Treat… If you are looking for a bit of a treat and on the hunt for some decent food, Aquatini might be the answer. Housed in Navalai River Resort, it’s easy enough to get to on foot – just a short walk from KSR – but as it’s right next to right next to Phra Athit Pier, you can walk straight off the boat and into the restaurant... excellent! It offers both Thai or European cuisine, and has a well stocked bar offering well good cocktails. Prices are good, too. Great for special occasions.

Missing Person…
Mandy Lee writes: "Hi - looking for my brother CHRISTOPHER JAMES FORBES. Born in Tynemouth, Newcastle, he moved to Essex lived in Canada then Spain. He was last heard 3 YEARS AGO, from Asia (somewhere) selling retirement apartments, PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOU KNOW HIM OR HAVE SEEN HIM." Please let Mandy know if you can help. Let us know, too.

Twisted Republic…
Fancy a night clubbing off KSR? Twisted Republic is a decent bet... Check it out.

Koh Tao on steroids…
A new site on Koh Tao hit the World Wide thingymajig recently. Nicely laid out, it's got the full SP on accommodation (budget to exclusive), plenty of info about Koh Tao (maps, history, etc.), activities on the island (diving, spas, Thai Boxing, etc.), where to get fed and watered, night clubs... the works actually! Check it out...

These are my sister's plates - enjoy...

Wake-a-Lot…
Lulu Seegers writes: "Hello khaosanroad, I have been at the coolest place in thailand last season, it is a watersportplace 90 minutes south of bangkok, they just opened and i had a blast of my life so i would like to boost these guys and think they should be recommended on khaosanroad. the place is called Wake-a-lot. This place is in an original Thai atmosphere and only 30 minutes from the beach or 45 to Pattaya. the lake is amazing and the little resort outstanding, they have so much more stuff to do than wakeboarding and waterski like trampoline, snooker, ping pong, climbing and the biggest treehouse i have ever seen in Thailand. It would be great if you could write something about these guys they do a great job. check it out. Thanks lulu from Germany." I think you did a good job yourself - so why reinvent the wheel? :)

Ready, Set, Go-kart!

"The smell of petrol fills the air, the sound of revving engines mixing with the rock music that filters out from the speakers. Tension mounts as I glance at my opponent and catch his steely stare. A large bet has been placed on the outcome of this race, so the stakes are high. Also, a large group of friends have come to watch, so I am determined not to lose." Click here for more on Go-karting in Bangkok, Thailand.

More Mex...

Guy and Pat down at Mexican Tartars have added a number of promotions to their mix of great food and hospitality! UBradio.net is an Internet radio station located at Sripoom Expresso Bar, right on KSR's doorstep! They stream FREE high quality mixes LIVE Worldwide - 24/7. They are "the ultimate Internet source" for the underground music scene, and it's pretty exciting - worth checking out...

The Story of…
Denis H., Grandmaster Flash, 808, and RCA...

It's sad to say, but many a traveler on KSR never actually makes it further than the police station of an evening. KhaoSanRoad.com had to intervene. We took a look around to find something worth getting off the strip for - and we came up with RCA... Click here to find out more about RCA, Bangkok, Thailand.
