The Story of…
Denis
H., Grandmaster Flash, 808, and RCA...

It's
sad to say, but many a traveler on KSR never actually
makes it further than the police station of an evening.
KhaoSanRoad.com had to intervene. We took a look around
to find something worth getting off the strip for - and
we came up with RCA... Click here to find out more

Missing Person…
"A
friend of mine, Troy Brovan, has been missing since July
21, 2008. Troy went to Bangkok for a retirement party
and has not been seen or heard from since. Troy works
for Northwest Airlines in Honolulu, Hawaii. He is about
5'6" tall, and Caucasian. We know that when he first got
to BKK he went to the PB Hotel... We have NO pictures.
This is not his first visit to Thailand and he previously
had a Thai wife. He was in Thailand about a month before
his latest trip." If you have seen or heard anything from
or about Troy, please contact Debra
Witteveen. Let
us know, too. Everyone concerned are extremely worried.

Rally…

Found
it a bit more difficult to get around the immediate KSR
area yesterday? Surprised by the number of people wearing
yellow shirts? Well, there was a pro-democracy rally at
Democracy Monument led by the People's Alliance for Democracy
(PAD). That's probably why!

Earth from Above…

This is the last month of an exhibition
of Yann
Arthus Bertrand’s aerial photographs. The exhibition,
entitled, EARTH FROM ABOVE: AN AERIAL PORTRAIT OF OUR
PLANET, started 3 June and finishes 9 September 2008.
It’s a great location – outdoors at the Zen Outdoor Arena
and Amphitheater Zone, Central
World, central Bangkok. It’s great looking at these
images outdoors because you are as vulnerable to the climate
as the earth itself. Sweating to the point of death or
being swamped by rain (or both!) really brings home the
environmental message without a slogan in sight. Admission
is Monday to Thursday: 10.00 – 22.00 and Friday to Sunday:
10.00 – 23.00. There’s no charge. 120 million people have
seen these photographs – you could be one. Make a morning
or afternoon of it – visit the Erawan
Shrine first (opposite), then do some shopping, and
then catch the exhibition.
UBRadio…

UBradio.net
is an Internet radio station located at Sripoom
Expresso Bar, right on KSR's doorstep! They stream
FREE high quality mixes LIVE Worldwide - 24/7. They are
"the ultimate Internet source" for the underground
music scene, and to learn about what Bangkok has to offer
that scene. We are going to try and catch up with these
guys soon, but in the meantime, check out their Facebook
listing. The station's hard launch is August 9, 2008
at 808
on RCA.

Khao Phra Vihar…
Professor
George Coedè, a world renown scholar on Cambodia, said
“The temples of ancient Cambodia were the habitations
of the gods who animated the temples by their living presence”.
To appreciate Khmer temple architecture it is necessary
to know something of the rituals surrounding a temple.
This is no place to record the intricacies of the god-king
worship, even if it were fully known. . . Click

Nok Air Drops Phuket-Bangkok
Flights…
NOK
AIR is cutting its daily flights between Bangkok and Phuket
from the end of July, along with services to three other
destinations. About 20 Nok Air staff at the airport on
Phuket are also going to lose their jobs as the aviation
industry crisis, fuelled by rising oil costs, impacts
on Thai travel nationwide. Click

Wakeboarding in Thailand…

"Daa…" Splash! My friend loses control of his wakeboard
and plunges headfirst into the lake. But seconds later
he is up, huge smile on his face. "This is awesome," he
beams, giving me the thumbs up sign." It's a sultry Saturday
morning and I'm sitting in the sunshine beside a sparkling
clear blue lake fringed by palm trees and the red sloping
roves of temples, which glitter and shine as the dun hits
them. Hard to believe that this is just outside Bangkok,
but the truth is that a short taxi ride away from the
busy capital, this peaceful haven is just waiting to be
discovered. Click here for more about Wakeboarding
in Thailand.
