Danny Hall - Update

British citizen Danny Hall, 35, (full name: Daniel Christian Hall) has been missing in Thailand since the 25th February, 2008, when he was last seen on Ko Pha Ngan, Surat Thani. The following interview was conducted with Roy - a close friend of Mr. Hall's, who has just spent a week searching for his friend on the island.

KSR.com: Can you tell us how you know Danny Hall?

Roy:
I met Danny when we were both studying at the University of Birmingham in about 1992. I have been living and working in Thailand for 10 years now, but we always stayed in touch and Danny has been out to see me a couple of times. He was with me in Bangkok before he headed south on this trip and went missing.

KSR.com: Please describe Danny for us.

Roy: Physically, he is aout 5'10' (180cm) tall, of average build, with blue eyes and short / shaven hair. He is a highly intelligent, sociable and talkative guy, and is much loved and respected by all his friends. He is from Norwich in England and speaks with a distinct southern English accent.

KSR.com: Can you outline for us the events that lead up to Danny's disappearance?

Roy: To the best of our knowledge, Danny arrived on Ko Pha Ngan and checked into Laem Son 2 bungalows on Hat Yao beach. He attended the Full Moon Party on the 24th February, and was last seen the following day at the Backyard Pub near Hat Rin, where the Full Moon Party is held, around midday. Coincidentally, I called him at around 2pm the same day and judging by the music in the background, he was still there. He seemed to be having a good time, but I couldn't hear him clearly so we ended the call. No one has seen or heard from him since. He has abandoned his stuff in his bungalow and has not withdrawn any money since. Obviously, we are all very worried about him. We think that he was wearing a light blue t-shirt, black tracksuit bottoms with a white stripe down the side, black trainers and a black money belt at the time. He was last seen hanging out with a ginger-haired English man, about 6ft tall and 30 years old, shirtless

and wearing white shorts, who a couple of people have said was the spitting image of Josh Homme from Queens of the Stone Age (pictured above/below). We think Danny may have left the Backyard by 5pm but we have no idea where he went. This man is most likely to know.

KSR.com: How has your search gone?

Roy: Well, after all this time, the trail is extremely cold. The police on Koh Pha Ngan have been very helpful - we visited them on the 2nd May and they instantly organised a search of the thick undergrowth around the Backyard Pub, and are organising a further search with dogs. Everyone on the island we spoke to has been very receptive. The UK Police were considering coming out here to help, but that seems to be on hold for the time-being. We would very much like to see that happen. In conversations I had with the Koh Pha Ngan police, they certainly seemed happy to receive such a delegation.

KSR.com: How can anyone reading this help?

Roy: We would very much like to hear from anyone who was at the Backyard Pub on the 25th February, especially anyone who might have seen Danny. Anything you can tell us might help us find our friend. We desperately want to contact the ginger-haired English guy I mentioned, as we believe he is most likely to know where Danny was thinking of going after the Backyard. We would also love to hear from anyone who was staying in Laem Son bungalows around the time. Anyone with any information please contact me on 087 008 0787 (0066 87 008 0787 from outside Thailand) or Charlie. If people would like to find out more or refresh their memories if they think they might have seen Danny, searching for 'Danny Hall' on facebook.com will turn up quite a lot.

KSR.com: Do you have any advice for any of our readers who might be thinking of going to a Full Moon Party?

Roy: Well, I went to a few Full Moon Parties between 1997 and 2000 and never saw any serious trouble. That said, when people are a bit inebriated and having a good time, they tend to let their guard down, making it potentially dangerous, especially on the night of the Full Moon Party. So, never swim or ride a motorbike when intoxicated, never get angry when trying to resolve a dispute, especially at some of Hat Rin's nightspots, and don't wander around unlit areas by yourself late at night on the night of the Full Moon Party. I haven't heard of many incidents or accidents that couldn't have been avoided if people stuck to that common sense advice. The locals are generally a laid-back, fun-loving bunch - they're also pretty libertarian about it all. You are a consenting adult and you party at your own risk - like any big gathering, keep your wits about you and you'll stay out of harm's way.

KSR.com: Thank you for talking to us and we hope you find out what has happened to your friend.

Roy: Thanks. Me too.
