Sunday September 21 Bangkok, Thailand
The crowd attending the first Siam Combat
Freestyle Fighting Championship, organized
by the Siam Combat magazine and sponsored
by the Fairtex, saw some great action on Sunday
September 21. Over a hundred martial arts
fans and two local TV channels were present
at the Chulalongkorn Indoor Stadium in downtown
Bangkok. They witnessed competitors from different
martial arts schools put their skills and
courage on display. At the end , however,
Bangkok Fight Club members took home most
of the trophies by winning all their fights.
In what was probably the most exciting and
well fought fight of the day, Frederic Delbeke
of Bangkok Fight Club battled Eakarin Thongma
for the open division title. The first round
was a dynamic Muay Thai display with some
heavy stand up exchanges followed by clinches
in which Eakarin finally scored a takedown.
Frederic instantly pulled guard, but Eakarin
didn't make any attempt to pass. He pushed
Frederic against the ropes and proceeded to
throw bombs from inside the guard. The second
round was all Frederic's. He dominated with
thai kicks, high as well as low, before he
took down Eakarin and immediately went to
the full mount. The referee had to step in
to save Eakarin from Frederic's merciless
barrage of punches. Winner: Frederic Delbeke
by TKO in the 2nd round. Mike Fabricant of
Bangkok Fight Club won his fight in the under
63 kg division via guillotine choke over Woraphon
Tontasae in the opening round.
Under 70 kg division was an 8 man tournament
with Alex Berezovik of the Bangkok Fight Club
submitting every one of his 3 opponents in
the very first rounds on the way to the victory.
The Bangkok Fight Club will be celebrating
it's first anniversary later this year and
is still the only MMA/ BJJ club in Bangkok.
The organizers considering this first Siam
Combat Fighting Championship a great success
and the plans are to make it a regular event.
