Surviving a knife attack
Knife attack!

Knife fighting is very misunderstood by many people. Knife fighting training is a very important part to add to your unarmed combat training. It is very intense and very comprehensive and needs to be fully studied. It is more than a few basic slashes and stabs. Knife fighting is a separate system.

To train against the knife you have to learn to be a knife fighter. Why? Knife fighters are precise and are the most extreme and dangerous people you can ever face with a knife. Unlike an inexperienced robber or mugger on the street a trained knife fighter have advance techniques that makes defense very difficult. If you can learn to fend off a knife fighter then the in-experienced mugger or assailant will become less of a task to deal with.

The hardest situation ever is when you are unarmed and attacker has knife. Which can often be a do or die situation. Unarmed vs. the knife should always be our last resort.

All too often we hear many instructors say, "run". But running is not always an option. Can we run if a family member is in the strike zone of the assailant? Plus, if we run the assailant may give chase with the predator instinct and strike us from behind. Militaries across the globe practice sentry kills from behind. Humans always have problems killing someone if they have to look at their face.

So we have established that we cannot run. The next step is improvisation of weapons. To be unarmed is the last thing we want to do. Can we use something as a weapon? Such as a chair, bottle, keys, wallet etc? Anything we can use to fend off or distract the assailant will be an advantage to us.

We are now looking at the worst case scenario. We cannot run and there is nothing we can use as a weapon. Now we engage unarmed vs. the knife. The most dangerous situation in knife fighting.

Knife defense and knife fighting is about wound minimization. Expect to get cut. It's about getting a minor wound and surviving, rather than taking a fatal strike. Remember the knife is a life taker. So to help ensure we don't bleed out if struck, our hands when in the guard position should be palm facing the torso to hide the wrists. It's really important to train with the knife to understand the knife attacks and defenses.

"Serious knife training is usually only available for the military special forces and bodyguards", says Randall Hodges one of the leading experts in the art of knife fighting, "my goal is to make it available to a general public. Nice people don't deserve to die just because they don't know how to protect themselves and knives and blades are the most used weapon nowadays". Randall Hodges has more than 14 years of experience of training and researching in the field of knife fighting. He taught and instructed in Philippines, Mexico, South Africa, USA and now came to Thailand. In year 2003 Randy Hodges received rank of Guru in tactical knife fighting and is one of the nine people in the world to ever receive this rank! Starting July 2003 Randy Hodges is teaching the art of knife fighting and knife survival at the Bangkok Fight Club.

Only for the people coming through Khaosanroad.com Randall offers free demonstration and introductionary class.
