writes: A BKK resident and regular to Khao San for many years, I was recently
disappointed at the new entry requirements put in place by some of the bars/clubs
- Bayon, Suzies, Immortal, Brick Bar... the list goes on - along our very own
Penny Lane. Specifically I'm talking about the doormen asking for your passport
for entry! No passport, no entry!!! What is happening to our oasis of "Sabai
Sabai"? (comfort). I don't know any farang (tourist or resident) who would take
his/her passport out with them for drinks on a Saturday night! These tactics have
already stopped a few of my late after-dinner drinks on Khao San and will no doubt
force many other non- passport holding patrons to go elsewhere to finish off their
night out. To those that are refused entry to anywhere on Khao San because you
don't carry your passport while out drinking, "JAI YEN YEN" (keep cool). Don't
worry - Khao San will no doubt return to being the home away from home we all
dig...! Keepitreal..........." Fact is that tourists are supposed to
carry passports with them at all times - remember that Thais have to carry ID
cards. And, if a Thai doesn't have an ID for an establishment to check their age
with, they wouldn't be granted entry. However, it sounds like 'keepitreal' is
possibly over 20 and that might not have been the reason for his dilema! It may
well be a security measure... Has anyone else experienced this? Anyone know
why the policy? Let us know... Other
